Dr Robert Abraham

Specialist in Prosthodontics GDC: 51146

I have run a successful specialist private practice in Central London for over 20 years but also pride myself in offering a service for routine dental care. In addition to specialist referrals, I also welcome families for their general dental needs. Over the years I have provided care for children, their parents, grand-parents and great grand-parents. During this time, I have gained valuable experience in dealing effectively and caringly with a wide range of dental problems. I have also seen that routinely carrying out treatment to the very highest standards is hugely beneficial to the longevity of my work and patients' oral health in general.

My professional training includes a Master’s Degree in Prosthodontics at the prestigious School of Dentistry in Indianapolis in the USA. This enabled me to provide dental treatment of the highest quality including crowns, bridges and implants and also to be able to understand and manage the complexities of tooth wear and bite problems.

On my return to the UK, I was appointed as a Senior Specialist Clinical Teacher at King’s Dental Institute, London. My academic experiences have covered undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, as well as clinical research. This included a variety of important areas such as ceramics used in dentistry, alternatives to amalgam filling materials and the use of air abrasion in dentistry. My interest in teaching and research enabled me to present papers and courses in the UK and internationally including invitations to institutions in Hong Kong, Argentina and Sri Lanka, as well as several European cities.

After 24 years of part-time teaching and research, I chose to devote all my time to my private practice. In 2016, I relocated from Wimpole Street to my current address at 40 Harley Street. I am now in the very fortunate position to be able to work with my daughter, Emilie, who is also a specialist in the same field. Together we are able to combine her modern training with my in-depth experience, ensuring our patients continue to receive high quality care.

I qualified with honours in 2012 at the University of Sheffield and carried out my foundation dental training in South Yorkshire.

Following this, I completed my Dental Core Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at York Teaching Hospital, where I gained extensive experience in the surgical management of patients with head and neck trauma, head and neck oncology and dental infections. Within this role, I developed a keen interest in Prosthodontics, attending the Restorative Dental Clinics and learning about the prosthetic rehabilitation of patients following surgery. During this time, I also completed the Membership Exam for the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (MFDS RCS Ed).

I then went on to complete a Masters in Clinical Dentistry in Prosthodontics and Royal College of Surgeons Membership and Diploma in Prosthodontics at Queen Mary University London, entering the GDC register as a Specialist in Prosthodontics in 2017. Within this role, I honed my skills in management of patients with tooth surface loss and rehabilitation of patients with dental implants. My research subject explored the synthesis and characterisation of novel glass-ceramic.

I have been working in private practice since 2017, providing a full general dental service and utilising my specialist training and experience. I am an extremely caring and considerate clinician, who can effortlessly put patients at ease, and comfortably guide them through simple and complex treatments. I enjoy all aspects of dentistry, with areas of special interest including management of patients requiring replacement of missing teeth with dental implants, management of patients with a worn dentition and aesthetic management of patients using minimally invasive techniques.

Similar to my father, Robert, I have been involved in teaching throughout my career. I have mentored students on the MSc Implantology course at the Institute of Clinical Excellence, Manchester and since moving back to London, have been recruited as a clinical lecturer on the Operative Dentistry Diploma held at King’s Dental Hospital.

I am an active member of the International Team for Implantology and have been appointed as a Young ITI ambassador. I am also a member of the Women’s Implantology Network.

Together with my father, I hope to combine my modern Prosthodontic training with his wealth of experience in Prosthodontics and general dental care to continue his tradition of providing high quality care for all patients.
